Future Forum Encourages Senate Leadership to Include Member Provisions in COMPETES Act Conference Report

Chair Darren Soto, Vice Chair Haley Stevens, and Reps. Sharice Davids, Derek Kilmer, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Mike Levin, and Ritchie Torres had several bills and amendments incorporated into the America COMPETES Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On March 4, 2022, the Future Forum Caucus sent a letter to Senate leadership requesting that they consider maintaining specific provisions in the House-passed America COMPETES Act during the conference report.

"The Future Forum is committed to advocating for young Americans through key policy initiatives. We believe that these provisions are not only critical to placing America on a path to lead the 21st century, but that they will address issues top-of-mind for Millennials and Gen-Z," wrote the members. "Young Americans deserve robust future employment opportunities, long-term supply chain resiliency, strong domestic production, and meaningful solutions to the existential threat of our time, the climate crisis."

Chair Darren Soto, Vice Chair Haley Stevens, and Reps. Sharice Davids, Derek Kilmer, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Mike Levin, and Ritchie Torreshad several bills and amendments incorporated in the America COMPETES Act which passed the House of Representatives on February 4, 2022. The act makes investments to tackle the climate crisis, ease supply chain difficulties, expand domestic manufacturing capabilities, and ensure continued long-term economic growth. Furthermore, it increases the inventory and production speed of semiconductors to strengthen the competitiveness of American industry, foster scientific discovery, fuel technological advancement, and strengthen our hand in international trade.

The letter to Senate leadership was signed by six members of the Future Forum Caucus, including Chair Darren Soto (FL-09), Vice Chair Colin Allred (TX-32), Vice Chair Haley Stevens (MI-11), Rep. Sharice Davids (KS-03), Rep. Derek Kilmer (WA-06), and Rep. Ritchie Torres (NY-15).
